Alabama launches new wildlife rehabilitation license plate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — If you’re looking for a new way to help Alabama animals – and decorate your car at the same time – check out the new license plate created by the Alabama Wildlife Center.
The specialty license plate featuring a Great Horned Owl is dedicated to wildlife rehabilitation and represents the injured and orphaned animals rescued every year by AWC.
AWC says that to bring the tag into production, they need 1,000 Alabama drivers to pre-register by May 2026. You can sign up on AWC’s website to cover the $50 specialty tag fee or request AWC to sponsor your pre-registration at no cost, thanks to donors underwriting the campaign.
“Every year, we care for upwards of 2,000 wild birds from over 110 different species—from Bald Eagles to tiny hummingbirds—all with the goal of returning them to their native habitats,” said Chris Sykes, Executive Director of Alabama Wildlife Center. “This license plate is a simple way for every Alabamian to help give wildlife a second chance.”
Once 1,000 pre-orders are secured, the plate will go into production, and AWC will receive a portion of every tag sold, about $41.25 per tag.
